SIGNBOARD is a term used for signs that are durable, rigid material, usually for long term outdoor or indoor use.  Signboard signs usually have the decoration applied flat to the surface using vinyl graphics and paints. Here is a brief description of some of the common signboard materials.  Be sure to check out the gallery of signboard signs.

Plastic & Metal Composites

Plastic core usually made of PVC, either solid or corrugated, sandwiched between two thin layers of aluminum.  Brand names may include Dibond, Alumacorr, Signabond.  Typically used in 3mm thickness for the solid core, and 6mm thickness for the corrugated core.  Other thicknesses are available and these are also available with colored baked on enamel faces.

Masonite or Hardboard

This composite wood material is used for indoor signs, or short term outdoor signs.  It is one of the most economical materials for signboard signs.

MDO

Medium Density Overlaid Plywood has been and still is one of the most popular substrates for SIGNBOARD signs.  It can be 1 or 2 sides, has a lot of structural strength and is one of the less expensive materials for permanent signs.

Plastics

There are a large number of plastics available for use as signboard signs.  Some of the more common are Acrylic, Polycarbinate, PVC, and Styrene.  Each comes in different thicknesses, and colors.  Once we discuss what your sign will be used for, we will recommend a material to fit both your needs and your budget.

Metal

The most popular solid metal material for signboards is Aluminum.  It is lightweight and does not rust if it gets a nick or scratch.  It comes in several thicknesses.
